Tonight we are making the kids contributions to the gifts for family. Reagan is making Peppermint Bark. We would love to get addicted to Williams and Sonoma's Peppermint Bark, which I feel is the best bark in the world. But it's a little cost prohibitive. We lucked out and found a recipe online that claims to be almost as good. Well, we tried it and we think it IS as good. We used premium chocolate and the soft peppermint that I think is so much better than that other vile stuff, so I think we did good.
We've gone through 9 bags of chocolate and it's simply a Christmas miracle that I don't weigh 300 pounds.
So I wish Christmas was over because my craft table looks like this.
I've got shelving to put up and lot of organizer bins but I don't have time to mess with it. It's going to be a great New Year's Day when I can organize my junk!
So here's a random fact about me.
I hate to clean up vomit.
This beautiful creature is Sophie. Sophie eats tinsel. And Christmas tree green things. Well, they're not really leaves so I don't know what to call them. Or are they leaves? But she doesn't really care what they are called anyway, just as long as she gets her tasty treat. But then she vomits it up all over the house.
Then there is this guy.
Well, you are not getting a picture because I apparently don't have one on the computer at the time. His name is Rory. I know Rory is a girls name. But my daughter is convinced Rory is a girl. So his name is Rory, got it? And we'll take Rory to the vet and have a little corrective surgery then Rory won't care if it's a girl or a boy, right?
And this guy's problem is he knocks things down.
So all this to say, I didn't put up my big tree. I have one of those skinny trees near the front door with white lights and cranberry beads. But I had to have a place to put presents. I chose the hearth for the gifts from the kids to each other and this dresser in the living room for the really expensive, don't want to get crushed gifts. And finally, here is where the twigs come in.
Hanging from the tree are vintage Christmas images I got from here. www.vintageimagemadness.com. I think I'm going to keep the tree on this dresser for a while because I can't hang things up and I need something tall here. I have rock walls a lot of places and that makes for lovely decorating challenges.
I have one more thing I want to share with you. Reagan is turning into her mommy. She wanted a snack and chose rice. We eat a lot of rice. But I digress. She couldn't just eat regular rice, right? So she molded the rice. She found a Tylenol measuring cup and molded the rice to make a nice presentation on her Strawberry Shortcake plate.
Between the peppermint bark, the chocolate covered peppermint and this rice dish, she's now convinced she's ready for her own Food Network tv show. Bon Appetit!
